I hate treadmills. They are boring and annoy me but when I wake up and find that its below 30 there is no way you are going to get me to go outside. I’m a baby I know. Well Sunday was designated as a 5 miler to work on endurance for Tough Mudder. I came up with this little gem to keep things interesting.
My gym buddy was late so I ended up doing a 1 mile walk on an incline – 20 minutes. Just to keep warm and entertained.
The actual run went as follows:
01:00-04:00: 6.0
04:00-05:00: 7.0
05:00-09:00: 6.0
09:00-10:00: 7.0
I kept this 4 minute jog and 1 minute run pace going for the first 4 miles. After about 2 I changed it to 6.3 and 7.3 for the pace. For the last mile I did:
Mile 4.00-4.20: 7.0
Mile 4.20-4.40: 7.3
Mile 4.40-4.60: 7.6
Mile 4.60-4.80: 7.8
Mile 4.80-4.90: 8.0
Mile 4.90-5.00: 8.5
It was a great run! It went by fast too because I was constantly paying attention to when I would be changing the speed.
Hopefully this model will help at least one person make it through a run they would rather not do!
Don't be shy... You know you wanna...
