Megan, Who Are You?!

Welcome to A Better Year To A Better Life – Food & Fitness! I am a 25 year old foodie and fitness junky, currently living in the DC metro area. I started this blog in January 2012 as a way to track weight loss and tough mudder training. Since my first mudder has come and gone and I’m not super interested in the scale any more, the blog has turned into a way to share healthy living ideas, healthy recipes, and work outs.

My general philosophy when it comes to food is that I like recipes to be quick, simple, delicious, and not break the bank. My current diet is mostly Paleo with a sprinkle of cheese and crusty bread from time to time, NOM. My grocery bill feeds only me and I keep that around $40 a week. That being said, I promise not to share recipes that call for rare truffle oil because honestly who has that on hand… like ever? I love to cook for other people and I love cooking (and eating) with my friends and my manfriend. They all make great guinea pigs for new recipes and typically we can agree when I’ve dropped the ball or hit the nail on the head. Cooking together is way more fun than cooking  alone and typically you end up trying something you wouldn’t have before! So really its a win win situation!img_4090When it comes to working out I’m all about variety. I was on a real running kick from January – July 2012 and picked it back up again in Dec, I have tried everything including BodyRocking, pilates, HIIT, and more, I’m currently doing lunch time crossfit / weight training work outs mixed in with running 3 – 4 days a week, I go to yoga on the weekends when I can but currently Sasha’s obedience training classes are trumping my yoga time slot, I play three season of soccer a year, and am hoping to work biking into my non routine now that I have a bike. Simply put – I’m all over the place. If you want to see what I have been up to work out wise my DailyMile page is a good place to start. I have severe ADHD so I can promise that along with my eating and work outs, my posts will always cover multiple topics!Photo on 2012-07-03 at 17.36 #3.jpegThere are a few main squeezes in my life that you will see through out this blog, I have two furbabies and an incredibly handsome/hunky boyfriend.IMG_4274 This is Jax, she is my first true love. This little nugget was born June 2009 and weighs in at a cool 8lbs. Mini kitty! She likes to help me study when I am being productive and learning things. photo 4(5)And this is Sasha. This picture is from when she was about 14 weeks. She was born Sept 21st 2012. She is constantly growing and will probably end up weighing close to 80-90lbs! She is a purebred German Shepherd and easily the cutest puppy in all the land.photo 3(8)photo 1(10)And this handsome devil is my main squeeze. His name is Brennan but you with normally see him referred to as manfriend and the boy. We have been together since June 2010 and have known each other since we were 12! Adorable isn’t it?

I love hearing from you so please comment to your hearts content and ask me anything you wish! I am an open book so don’t be shy! Enjoy : )**Minor update: I tore my ACL on 4/25 and am getting surgery on 5/21 – running is currently on hold but I am getting really creative in the gym and hopefully some cool stuff will come out of this less than stellar situation. I have been thinking about picking up triathlons and crossfit so I am excited to see where this path takes me!

Any comments, questions, suggestions, if you have a great product for me to review, or whatever you can think of feel free to reach out to me via email at: meganfoodandfitness@gmail.com
