Turn that frown upside down

I food porned you all earlier with lots of excessive eats that I indulged in this weekend. Whats the best way to fight over indulgence? Eating healthy and working out of course. I started immediately last night by partaking in my teams last soccer game of the outdoor season. We unfortunately lost 2-3, every one played really well though and I’m super proud of us. Exercise boost #1, check. Next up healthy eating. I started out today with 2 eggs and a small piece of paleo flax bread. I mentioned this bread came out a bit dense but if you serve runny eggs on it it tastes just dandy! As a pre work out snack I ate 1 ginormo banana. My work out today was a run. I didn’t plan out how many miles I was going to run, the game plan was to see how I was feeling. My knee has been sore for the last few weeks because of soccer so I wasn’t sure what I was going to get out of it today. Let me tell you something, I was VERY pleasantly surprised.I haven’t run over 4ish miles in forever. I try to run / bike to yoga every Saturday which is 4.2 miles and I don’t think I have managed that with out walking in well over a month. One thing that I realized very quickly was that I need proper running clothes. As you can see my wrist / hand is very red and creepy looking, this is because my hand / forearms were completely numb and frozen thanks to the 44 degree weather outside. It was beautiful for running, no complaints, I just was not dressed appropriately. I was in a 3/4 length men’s shirt and capris, not smart at all. Exercise boost #2, check.

After running sustenance was necessary. I also mentioned earlier that I made a big pot of soup for this weeks lunches so I heated that up and enjoyed. For quick soup ideas try one of these easy recipes – note, not all are paleo:
1) Sausage and Kale Soup
2) Chicken Noodle Soup
3) Mushroom and Lentil Soup
4) Beef Stew

This particular batch of soup was a fridge clean out. My ingredients included a dozen or so celery stalks, 3/4 green bell pepper, 1 1/2 carrots, 1/2 an onion, 1 large can of chicken (not ideal I know, I didn’t feel like cooking chicken though), 5 cups beef broth, 5 cups chicken broth, a hefty shake of spicy curry powder, and a hefty shake of thai seasoning. I used the typical quick method of cooking veggies for 5 – 10 minutes in a little olive oil then adding in broth, meat, and seasoning and simmering for an hour. I have about 12 cups of soup now, plenty for the week!

Q: What is your best pick me up when you are feeling less than stellar?
Q: Tell me a non scale victory from the weekend / today.

  1. Sorry you didn’t win your game but I’m glad you’re getting yourself back on track with food and exercise. Sometimes we all need to indulge once in awhile 🙂

  2. I miss soccer so bad. What kind of team do you play on?? I should do some research, but since I stopped playing with a rec league and with my school I don’t know where else to play OUTDOOR soccer. Indoor isn’t really my thing. Awesome run!

  3. Ohh, beef stew! I haven’t had that since last winter – I’ll have to add the ingredients to my shopping list this week.
My non-scale victory this week is reaching my Nike Fuelband target for the last two days after coming back from a heavy cold last week 🙂

  4. I love celebrating non scale vicotories…especially when the scale and I aren’t on the same page. This morning, I dragged myself out in the cold for a 6 mile run. And then did my plank for the challenge. I have a tough time getting back on track after a rough weekend. This post was inspirational! Way to go!
